JOINT CHANNEL ESTIMATION AND CCI CANCELLATION FOR STBC-OFDM SYSTEM IN TIME VARYING MULTIPATH FADING CHANNEL

Abstract

The performance analysis of Alamouti coded Space Time Block Code (STBC) based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is generally analyzed by assuming that the channel remain constant over two consecutive OFDM symbol blocks. However, in fast fading channel this assumption does not hold good and causes Co-channel Interference (CCI) due to channel variation during two adjacent ODM symbols. To cancel the CCI effects, different detection methods have been proposed in literature. Some of them are namely, Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC), Zero Forcing (ZF), Decision Feedback (DF) and Maximum Likelihood (ML). These detection methods are performed by assuming that the complete channel knowledge is known at the receiver side. But, in practical scenario, the channel is unknown to the receiver. This paper presents a simple joint channel estimation and CCI cancellation in STBC OFDM system in fast fading channel. A different pilot location scheme is proposed to estimate the channel. SIC, ZF, DF and ML detection schemes are followed by channel estimation. The performance of different detection methods with estimated and perfect channel information are compared on the basis of symbol error
